Environment

At Al Mustapha we believe the practice of protecting the natural environment is the responsibility of every individual and organisation. Due to the pressures of population and technology, the biophysical environment is being degraded, sometimes permanently. This has been recognised, and restraints on activities that cause environmental degradation have been put in place.

Waste minimisation strategies are vital to reducing landfill.  You can help by:

Reduce

  • Avoid or reduce packaging
  • Purchase wisely and efficiently
  • Think before you print
  • Print double-sided.

Reuse

  • Reuse before you recycle or dispose of an item
  • Reuse within your workplace e.g. use waste paper for note taking, put unwanted consumables out for others to use
  • Reuse in other areas of the Institute e.g. let others know you have an old laptop that might be useful for presentations

Recycle

Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill. Our recycling options focus on waste minimisation.

  • Recycle before you dispose of an item
  • Dispose to a responsible recycler that can certify their environmental waste management.
  • Ensure waste is placed in the correct bin to avoid unnecessary landfill.

Al Mustapha Institute has a comprehensive water-saving program. Over the past decade, the program has achieved significant water consumption efficiency.

What you can do

  • Turn off taps when you have finished using them

Cost of Living

Students must demonstrate that the funds they are relying upon to meet the costs of studying in Australia will be genuinely available to them during their stay in Australia. You should be prepared in case your living costs are greater than the indicated figures.

Once you’ve settled in it is recommended you work out a budget covering costs including clothing, food, accommodation, transport and entertainment. Travel costs and child care, if applicable, should also be taken into account. It’s important to be aware of how much money you spend and where you are spending it. Sticking to a budget will ensure you are on top of where your money goes.

Banking & Money

There are ATMs at local shops that are within walking distance to Al Mustapha.  A variety of banks and credit unions are located in the nearby shopping centre where you can cash travelers cheques and perform other types of financial transactions.

Transport

Al Mustapha Institute encourages its staff and students to use sustainable transport such as public transport, carpooling or cycling as alternative transport methods.

Translink provides a comprehensive transport network in and around Brisbane.  The local busway is within walking distance.
